Best UK Conference Centre - 15 February 2005
Birmingham’s expertise in the hosting of conferences has been recognised with two of the top awards at the industry’s leading ceremony, the Meetings and Incentive Travel Awards. Conference organisers and readers of ‘Meetings and Incentive Travel’ magazine voted to award Best UK Conference Centre to The ICC (International Convention Centre) and ‘Best UK Convention Bureau 2005’ to Birmingham Convention Bureau.
The ‘Best UK Conference Centre’ award is recognition of The ICC’s high levels of customer service and world class facilities. Andrew Morris, chief executive of The NEC Group which manages The ICC, said: "I would like to express my congratulations and appreciation to The ICC director Nick Waight and his exceptional team in winning this award. To be recognised as the best by professionals who really know their venues is such a tribute for the venue and its staff. This award recognises the high levels of service we offer The ICC's customers day in, day out. We are dedicated to delivering the kind of service and innovation that continually sets new standards for the conference industry. The two awards together reflect the strength of Birmingham as a destination for successful events. ”
Birmingham Convention Bureau - part of Marketing Birmingham, the organisation which promotes the city on the national and international stage - has regained its title which it won for seven years running from 1997-2003. Neil Rami, Chief Executive, Marketing Birmingham comments: “This is a fantastic achievement for Birmingham. It awards exceptional levels of customer service and organization that clearly recognises Birmingham as the premier events and conferencing destination in the UK. It should be remembered that this is an exceptionally competitive environment. We cannot however be complacent - we will need to continue to invest resources both with our infrastructure and the city’s marketing if we are going to maintain this primary market position”
